Gold colored raised metal is used on the horizon line just like the original

The background is trowelled and polished black venetian plaster

I used translucent washes of acrylic paints to allow the map to show through

I painted the background first and allowed it to dry

Texas Flap Map (canvas wrap) tree especially in the fallThe original version of the Texas Flag Map was painted on a road map of Texas. Like my Colorado Flag I didn't want to paint the flag like the original image, but wanted it to have more energy and movement. I traced out the design in pencil over the map then painted all the colors at the same time using a wet on wet technique allowing the colors to mix and blend. I also sprayed the wet paints at the edges with a misting bottle and tilted the piece back
