In the 18th century an infamous smuggler called Magnus Eunson operated an illicit distillery. When Magnus was caught one of the men who captured him was excise officer John Robertson who took over the running of the distillery in 1816. The distillery was founded in the 1790s so this makes it one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland.
