Alectryonia Oyster Fossil mammoth tooth Standard: Width 10cm Height 9cmOyster fossil of the species Alectryonia. With its distinctive zig zag shell edge, it is thought that like modern oysters, Alectryonia would have lived in shallow coastal waters and been a filter feeder. The angled joints between the oyster's two shells worked as a great defence against debris entering the oyster and damaging its soft body. From Tulear, Madagascar. Cretaceous, circa 95 million years old. Minimum size Length 9cm Height 5cm Depth 3cm
