Description

held by two panels of solid oak that join along its top — no screws

In a deep indigo or the red of Japanese urushi lacquer

adjusted by hand and dimmed to warm - soft enough

grounding the piece beneath its glowing white shade

Named for the ensō

Sen Pendant TSUMUGI held by two panels ofSen means lines in Japanese, and the piece is made of little else: six hundred fine bamboo strips, gathered into curved arcs and set in two tiers around a central core. It is handcrafted in the traditional Suruga takesensuji craft a technique of round, hair fine bamboo, worked one strip at a time. There is no shade: the structure is left open, so light passes between the lines, and Sen casts an elegant interplay of line and shadow across the room.
